For all you girls who like to draw or paint or illustrate with any other medium, you'll know that you need to start with a blank canvas or paper. But some people just don't understand...
I had an idea of a design I wanted to create, so I opened up a new artboard in Adobe Illustrator and began to draw a circle. Yes - a whole massively ginormous circle ;) Someone walked into the room and poked fun at me for knowing how to draw a circle (little does she know I don't really need to know how to draw a circle since I simply click on the ellipse tool - but shhh! It's our little secret 😉) But yeah, make fun of me. You're no designer yourself, so boo you!
Fast forward a few days. My phone jingled when I got a notification and this same person picked up my phone to give it to me. I told her I didn't believe it was an emergency to answer the phone every single time I get a notification (no, I'm not that attached to my phone) and on hearing that, she proceeded to turn my phone on to the home screen (I'm still not sure why she felt she had permission to do that, but wtvr!). And guess what was on my home screen? Yup! You guessed it. My finished and beautiful (if I may say so myself) artwork ❤!
She actually gushed over it and asked me where I got that picture (she asked if I got it off the internet). Here's what I answered: "Remember that circle I drew that you made fun of. Yeah, well that's it!" I'm still not sure if she got over the shock ;)
Fast forward about a year and PBteen did a collab with Isabella Rose Taylor (which is really neat so go check it out! No, I don't receive any compensation for sending you their way.) Anyway, I found out about it on PBteen's twitter account and here's what they wrote in the tweet: "Be inspired by the blank canvas and dare to begin!"
Look at that! They know me! I replied to their post with this: "Yup! It all starts with nothing but potential. Hmmm... I think I'll coin that phrase!"
Well, I didn't coin it, but I did make artwork out of it! Check it out!
Anyway, back to physical design, get out your blank canvas and start creating! Think of things that make you happy, think of colors you like, and think of things you can definitely use in your room. Draw a sketch of a basic room. Here's where it gets fun! You can start by checking out my Pinterest account and you can begin to discover what your style is. I have a board called "Room Decor" - that's a pretty good place to start ;) Again, I don't get any compensation for sending you to those websites. But I'd really love if you can send some of your friends my way too so that this blog can really get a following :)
So keep those brushes painting and design a life you love! Remember, it all starts with nothing but potential ❤
