Yup - that's what I used to say to myself every morning when I looked into that dreadful mirror. Okay, I still do even though I know I shouldn't. I wake up in the morning all invigorated and ready to start a brand new day. I choose the perfect outfit, brush my hair and put a sparkly pin to keep my baby hairs out of my eyes. I walk to the mirror to take a look at all the work I put into looking good and... "Uch!"
Why? Why can't I ever look skinny? Even remotely thin. I used to look through catalogs and magazines and go to the mall and walk past store windows with big banners and wish that one day I would look like those pretty little girls. Never happened. But then I decided that it's just not fair that "we" (meaning girls with a little bit extra "something" on us) can't fit into all those cute clothes that our friends are wearing. Not long ago, I decided that I wanted to do something about it. I wanted to design a clothing line for girls of all ages and all sizes. We would be able to wear the same exact clothes that our thin "dream selves" were wearing. My clothing line was going to not only have a line for plus size girls, but my line was going to have one all-inclusive line - one line for all girls, tweens, and teens - just instead of having a separate selection for plus sizes, I would simply put in half sizes. And instead of stopping at a size 16, I would keep going up so that even taller girls, who are built like many women, can dress without any problems wearing clothes they can actually love.
And there are even girls in their twenty-somethings (yes, I'm one of 'em) who like the styles that the younger girls are wearing. I love sequins and neon colors. Why can't we dress a little more sparkly than the typical junior t-shirts that sport graffiti graphics and rips all over? My clothing line would have sizes for us too. Great idea, no?
Well, yes - if companies would be willing to accept a girl with a realistic dream instead of a BA in fashion... (I mean, hello! I designed my own gown for my sister's wedding and got tons of compliments, so I know I've got something to offer!)
So, no. My clothing line didn't take off - yet... But that doesn't mean it won't! However, there is some super news for young girls who, like me, are having trouble finding clothes they like and fit into and I'm so excited to share it! Justice started plus sizes a while ago, but just recently they extended the line! :) They have really cute clothes for all shapes and sizes - yes, even for girls with a little bit of extra frosting ;) Okay, so they still haven't extended it as far as I wanted to extend mine, but hey! One step at a time. I'm truly grateful that they finally recognized the need and took it upon themselves to try and rectify the problem. Now, girls of all sizes can proudly and happily wear clothing they actually love! ❤ When a girl gets to wear clothes she actually loves wearing, it boosts her self-esteem and self-image. Wouldn't you love to see more girls wear smiles on their faces? I would! ☺
I'm really hoping that more brands follow in Justice's footsteps and extend their lines too. Justice has a specific style and some girls might not like all the sparkle (I can't imagine who wouldn't but...). If more brands extend their fashion line sizing options, there will be more of a variety of styles to choose from and more girls will feel great in what they wear.
And if there are any brands out there who want someone to join their team and design amazing clothes with extended sizes, I'm here! (hint, hint 😉) I may not have a BA in fashion, but I do have an L.O.V.E. for it ❤
